Samsung may start manufacturing 4G and 5G network gears in India

Samsung, a South Korean telecom equipment maker, has informed the India telecom department (DoT) of its intention to apply for the next phase of the production-linked incentive (PLI) 2.0 scheme for network equipment, with the goal of producing 4G and 5G equipment domestically.

People familiar with the matter told the Economic Times that the business is negotiating 4G expansion and 5G supply contracts with Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel. The Production Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme provides a variety of benefits to companies while also encouraging both foreign and domestic production to create jobs. Samsung now appears to be taking the initiative to exploit these advantages to produce telecom equipment.

The company is said to have participated in discussions with Reliance Jio and others, including Bharti Airtel, regarding 4G and 5G equipment supply contracts. Samsung may receive approval from Reliance Jio to supply equipment because the company already supplies 4G equipment. At the same time, Airtel has been exploring ways to diversify its vendor base beyond European equipment makers Nokia and Ericsson, creating a win-win situation for Samsung to begin manufacturing.

We’ll have to wait for the official confirmation from Samsung regarding this matter.
